Kiddo's class performed a Thanksgiving play on Wednesday. They were so cute.
Kiddo did a fabulous job saying his two lines.
This child has no stage fright whatsoever. Actually, none of the kids seemed to be very concerned about being up on stage in front of parents, grandparents and other students. Was I that poised as a 6-year-old???
Kiddo came home from school in a crafty mood. There were turkeys made out of (fake) leaves (they were supposed to be real leaves, but the ones around here are all dry, brown and crunchy).
There were turkeys made out of handprints.
(found here)
And turkeys made from yarn.
(a Martha craft, tweaked a bit - we used yarn wrapped around a styrofoam ball instead of the pom pom, and paper instead of felt).
After the turkeys, it was time to whip up a "Thankful Poster."
Every year, our church has a "Thanksgiving Eve" service. This year, the congregation was encouraged to make posters describing things for which we were thankful. Those that made posters gave testimonies at the service about what was on the posters, and they were hung up on the wall for everyone to see. It was fun to see what different people chose to put on their posters. Ours had pictures of our family, church family, Kiddo's school, and ducks (of course).
Our weekend was a quiet one. We spent Thanksgiving Day with my parents this year (Hubby's family celebrated the week before). My parents came over for dinner and stayed for a little while, but were eager to go home and rest. They had just returned the night before from a physically, mentally and emotionally taxing trip out-of-state, and they were exhausted. We spent the rest of the week just chilling out as a family.
There were a lot of board games played. And a lot of Wii played.
There were a lot of iPod games played. We are addicted to Angry Birds and Carcassonne. Although SimCity and a few others got played as well.
(No, despite all appearances this weekend, we do not normally spend entire weekends glued to various pieces of technology).
We also got started on the Christmas decorations. Kiddo is in charge of his own little tree.
We're planning on putting the big tree up on Saturday (yay!).
We did not go shopping on Black Friday.
We did sleep in a lot.
And stay in our pajamas all morning.
And eat cereal for breakfast and then again for dinner.
Hubby started back to "real life" today. Kiddo had today off, so real life for me and Kiddo starts tomorrow (today is the first day of hunting season, and apparently a significant enough portion of the population goes hunting to warrant a day off from school).
It was a good weekend. I spent yesterday evening writing up our Christmas letter, which necessitates reflection on the past year. We are so blessed. There are rough spots, and things don't always go the way we want or expect, but looking back over the past several months, it is clear to me that God has been there through it all, and has provided what we need and so much more. And I am thankful.
And now I'm off to bed. Good night!
