kindergardens - week 13

Our kinder hasn't been in our kinderGARDEN much this week.  He's been a little distracted.

I'm afraid the garden doesn't hold a candle to the newborn kittens next door.  I've already been informed by our neighbor that they will be available for adoption.  I'm trying very hard to resist the adorableness of the gray calico on the right.  We have two cats already - we don't really need a third.  But oh, she's cute.

The big gardening news this week was this:

Wonderful, blessed rain!

After three dry weeks, we were more than happy to have a big thunderstorm roll through.  Now we don't have to do this for a few days:

Kiddo's zinnia bed.  So pretty.

We picked green beans this week!

(I obviously didn't plan on picking them until I got down
to the garden...I should have brought a bucket).

I threw a handful in a pot and steamed them for dinner the other night.  Kiddo gagged on the first bite and refused to eat any more.  Gardening Mom fail.  There are pounds and pounds of beans still out on the teepee...I guess we will be donating some beans to the food bank!

Fortunately, there are a few other things that Kiddo is willing to eat from the garden.

We'll see if we can get him out there a little more this week.  I found our first ripe roma tomato last night, and our peppers and onions are getting big.  Salsa time is coming!

More kinderGARDEN fun can be found over at The Inadvertent Farmer.

My kids don't like cooked beans but they will eat them by the handful raw straight from the vine...maybe you little guy will too!

Yeah for rain when its needed (not when its not...ahem) You're garden looks wonderful being drenched by mother nature.

You son looks very much like his daddy! Great post...as always. Kim

I almost cried at the sight of your tomatoes. So beautiful. I'm trying to keep mine alive. Some old timers have said they may bounce back in the fall for a small crop. Guess we'll see!

Your zinnias are awesome. What variety(?) are they? Mine don't look like that. They are fat and stout little plants. Don't get tall like yours...

So beautiful! Send some rain (and cooler temps maybe?) our way! :)

Love the happy zinnias! Mine are still in the seed pack! Oh well, maybe next year!
Usually kids have to taste something two or three times before they will like it. As long as he isn't forced to eat it and can associate a good memory with the taste, then later on when he tastes it his taste buds will "remember" the flavor and won't reject it. Anyway, that is what I have witnessed with 6 kids.
Congrats on the rain and the tomatoes!
I vote for the grey as well, if you decide you need 3 cats!

I wish I could have sat and ate green beans with you. They aren't going to come here, sigh. The zinnas are totally scrumptious!

T-shirts are the best buckets :) I am so so so jealous of your rain, please send some good rain vibes our way...

I collect eggs the way you collected green beans. Sorry the green beans didn't go over well. At least he tried!

You've been dry for three weeks. Really? Wow. I can see how beautiful that rain would be. We've been hammered with storm after storm.

Glad you got some rain! We've had a bit too much here, but not so much it's overwhelming. We're staying afloat!

Alas....cooked green beans are an aquired taste. I made babyfood out of mine when my tots were were babies, and that's gotta be why they like them now....? I myself only starting liking them within the past 5 years or so.

Those cherry tomatoes look delicious!

And I never have a bucket when I run out to the garden either. : )
