I got excited when Craft Hope announced their latest project: making pillowcases for seriously ill children staying in hospitals across the country. I don't sew much, but I figured even I could manage pillowcases!
Kiddo and I headed to the fabric store, where he eagerly helped me pick out fabric.
Once we had fabric, it was time to get out the sewing machine! Only, as I have mentioned, I couldn't get it working, so I handed it off to my mom to fiddle with and I borrowed her machine, which was wonderfully easy to use.
The hardest part? Cutting the fabric and making sure it was cut square - especially when the ladies at the fabric store didn't cut it square.
While I was sewing, Kiddo was using the fabric scraps and his blocks to build...um...something.
(the drink of champions)
In a couple of days, we had ten pillowcases to send to the hospital! Well, okay, only nine, because Kiddo wanted to keep one.
We wrote a note and added some pictures to be included with each pillowcase, which Kiddo signed and decorated.
And now, as soon as I wash them (mild, unscented detergent, no fabric softener), they will be ready to go!
If you are interested in participating, details for the project, as well as pillowcase instructions, can be found here.

What a great project! Fantastic that you were able to involve your son in different parts of the project, including the note at the end.
