anticipation

Tonight we all went out and romped in the yard for a bit before bedtime.  It was fun to see what had happened since the last time we really looked around.  Our yard is busy this week!

Summer flowers are starting to bloom:

The garden is really starting to take off:

And tiny fruits are forming!

We are anticipating seeing the flowers in full bloom and enjoying the produce from the garden - we like to make salads, can salsa, grill veggie kabobs, and just eat fresh tomatoes and carrots right out of the garden.  I'm also looking forward to our sunflowers, pumpkins and gourds - I've succeeded with sunflowers before, but have had very limited success with pumpkins and gourds - they keep getting some nasty bug that decimates the entire vine.  Ugh.  BUT, we are hoping we can beat the bug this year!!

Also...news flash!  Our beans have sprouted!  The package said 6-8 days for germination, but ours were poking through today, which is day 5.  Super beans!  We are excited to watch them grow.

It was a good night for hammock swinging, too...

Decorating the "floor" of the pole bean tunnel with sidewalk chalk:

And there were even a few lightning bugs, despite the cooler weather.

We'll see what is happening out there tomorrow!

You give me hope that one day when it quits raining that my garden will look as productive and lush as yours!

Thanks so much, everybody!

Faith - Hubby and I enjoyed reading through your blog last night. We were rolling over the potty training post. But it sounds like you are having more luck than we did...he was 4 1/2 when he finally decided he was ready!

Author - he loves to draw! I love watching him create.

What a fantastic idea to let him draw on the landscape fabric with sidewalk chalk! It shows up so much better than on an actual sidewalk. :)

I love your yard, and your photos. Someday when I grow up I'm going to have a nice camera and the time to figure out how to use it properly.
