summer's simple things {rainy day}

Update:  I was asked to re-post this over at www.mommytopics.com for Summer Family Fun Tuesdays.  If you hopped over from there to here, welcome!

Summer Family Fun Blog Hop Tuesdays

We've finally gotten some rain!

Our rain gauge died, so we measured the water in a bucket that had been left out - with Daddy's Garfield ruler that he's had since I don't know when.  Three and a half inches!  And we got more last night.

Then it was off to measure more water and stomp in puddles...

It took me a while to realize that my son was walking around the neighborhood in his boxers.  Oh, well.

After we had walked around the block and gotten each other soaked, we came back home and made a quick boat to sail in the ditch that runs in front of our house.

This is the last we saw of that boat...

He dropped it at the end of the culvert under our road in the hopes that it would come out the other side.  It never did...we looked in and it was stuck on its side, halfway through.  Bye bye boat.

Daddy was brought out to assess the situation.

Daddy suggested a different boat design - toothpicks and cardboard, like he and his twin brother had made when they were young.  This time, we sailed them in our pond.

It doesn't get much simpler than rain, puddles and toothpicks!  While we were playing, my son said, "Mommy, it's a good day to play outside.  There is a lot of fun stuff to do!"  More of Summer's Simple Things can be found over at The Inadvertent Farmer.

Your son is going to have great memories of his mom & dad playing in the puddles with him. Love the little boats!
