kindergardens - week 13

Here's a look at what's been happening in our garden this week (when we've actually gone out to check it - we have been having a record-setting heat wave this week with temps up to 102, so we've been spending a lot of time in the air conditioning):

(the deer have been busy - this is the first year we have had them in our garden - perhaps the drought has taken other food sources?  Hopefully they leave behind enough for us to eat!)

(blackberries are beginning to ripen)

(gourds are blooming)

(eep!  cute little baby gourd!)

(pumpkins are also blooming and setting little babies)

(so far, so good for Hubby's peanut experiment)

(can't WAIT for our sunflowers to bloom!)

(the gourds have reached the top of the pole bean tunnel!)

(this was taken several days ago, so the gourds are even taller now, but it gives you an idea of HOW FAR our pole beans have to grow before they catch up.  I'm not sure it's going to happen)

(one of the reasons our pole beans are struggling)

(purple beans are growing!)

(AND we got to eat the first pepper out of the garden!)

Hopefully the heat will break, we'll get some rain (we haven't had any for over a month, I think), and we'll be out spending more time in the garden next week!

Head on over to The Inadvertent Farmer to see what's happening in other "kindergardens!"

Oh that baby gourd is just precious! You are so much farther than we are...just now getting blackberry blossoms and no pumpkin blossoms to be seen.

Wonderful photography...I always look forward to your pictures, Kim

Can't wait to see how the peanuts work out! I've always thought it would be neat to grow those & turn them into peanut butter.
